Kenny Barron, Stefon Harris, Ron Carter and Lewis Nash recast The Nutcracker without an orchestra, and Harris’s vibraphone gives the Sugar Plum Fairy a new shimmer without imitating the celesta.

The retitled movements, including “Blues à la Russe” and “Bedouin Dreams”, reveal the rhythmic character chosen for each dance.
