Classical piano came to Peter Beets through his music-teacher mother, while his father’s enthusiasms ran to Oscar Peterson and Art Blakey. That double inheritance has become a career- long meeting point: Beets brings Peterson-like drive to Chopin, Russian Romanticism and Spanish repertoire, looking for the swing already latent in a dance or melodic turn.
