Ellington and Strayhorn’s Peer Gynt settings caused a genuine copyright storm: Grieg’s foundation considered the treatment offensive and blocked sales and performances in Norway while the music remained protected there. The three Scottish National Jazz Orchestra performances preserve that once-suppressed encounter inside a much broader Ellington tribute.
