“Song of India” and “Marie” were recorded at the same January 1937 session and issued together on a 78, giving Dorsey two enduring performances on a single disc. Both were transformed by Bunny Berigan’s trumpet solos; within weeks he had left to lead his own band, while the record helped make Dorsey a household name.
