The originals remain clearly recognisable throughout Think Bach, even as Édouard Ferlet stretches their rhythms, redirects their phrases and opens them to improvisation.

His starting points range from The Well-Tempered Clavier and the Goldberg Variations to a cello-suite prelude and the St Matthew Passion. Ferlet finds different freedoms within each one: a prelude may be dismantled and reconstructed, a phrase turned around, or an aria reshaped through touch and dynamics.
